The MVPs got to pick who gets to keep the pumpkin (they gave me the clone of me). Then I had my TAs judge the best overall (and of course discuss what they saw team work wise, etc). The MVPs got beads. It was a really cool class today. Oh- Mike spoke about Knightro (applications are available next semester) and I have a bunch of students (including girls) who are going to try out.

This week's update

Ahhh Homecoming is here and it is going so smoothly so far. We dropped off all of our devil cans and box tops last Thursday. I had my final horror film (Halloween) last Wednesday and Lori joined me for that one which was cool. On Friday we met up with Mel, Lori and Molly after work for dinner. Then Rob & Lisa came over & we watched Fantastic 4- Rise of the Silver surfer. Can't go wrong when a movie has Julian McMahon in it. On Saturday Chaz & I went shopping for clothes and found some fabulous deals for him. We also visited Mike at work who was workin on the Knightro video which is awesome. Then we also got pumpkins and carved those. Chaz made me a UCF one (at first it looked like UF so he plugged it back up and redid it). Awwwww. On Sunday we did errands and grocery shopping, met the Phanstiels for lunch, and went to the carnival and to El Cerro w/ Mike (blah to that place). Then PW came over to watch the game. Not to shabby to have an 8pm game on ESPN. Tonight is the outdoor movie night. My Hon Con ) aka Honors Congress) kids, have been a delight. All is going so smoothly w/ the homecoming stuff. The toughest night is Wednesday w/ Skit night. Stinks that it is on Halloween though. On Friday we have Spirit Splash and the Black & Gold Gala. In other news, Ben got his crazy new bunk bed that has a stairwell to the top bed. Also, my sister got a new black Mercedes 300. It will arrive in a few days.

Who knew?!?!

Growing up I watched my horror movies at home on like TBS or USA Network. I didn't realize how much they cut out! So at the film series last night, we watched Carrie. OMG, the first 4 minutes of the film is in a girls locker room full of naked girls and in in-depth close up of Carrie washing every bit of her body in the shower. So you can imagine- the screen is directly across from the two glass doors so anyone walking by probably thought we were all watching porn! That was hysterical.

Next week we will watch the original Halloween with Jaime Lee Curtis in it.
Today we have a luncheon with a CEO of a Venture company that helps people start up small businesses. That's all for now!

I used this in my class today. It is really cute.

October

Sheesh! October is sooo busy but fun. On Saturday we went to the Sleuth Dinner Mystery show. It was my first time there. the food was way better than expected plus a good show. Very enjoyable! Last night we attended Zack's 1/2 birthday. Tonight is the horror film Carrie.
Tomorrow is HHN. Saturday is the Home Game/tailgate but i am also working the Open house here. I am going to be pooped after this week!

I am making arrangements with my sister to take Ben for the weekend of Dec 1st. Oh I am making some awesome plans. I want to take him to Gatorland. He loves ladybugs so I will take him to Lukas Nursery. He loves cars so maybe a car show. Of course I gotta bust out my tent! We will do some out door stuff. I have a lot of fun surprises up my sleeve for Ben. It will rock. Anyone have other cool suggestions in the area of things to do with a 4 year old?

The new Ac unit has been wonderful. Not only is it freezing, but it lowered our bill from $360 or 380 down to $220. Next step is to get rid of the beer fridge in the garage- that raises our power bill by $30-40 a month!

Homecoming is right around the corner (starting Oct 27-Nov 3). I am most looking forward to the Blk&Goldgala and the parade.

I am going to see what I can do about working covering the costs for a trip in November. I will keep you posted. We are maybe considering a trip in Feb/March.

I so think that first episode of The Price is Right w/ Drew Carey was so rigged! EVERYONE won. Plus TWO people both spun the magic $1 for the showcase showdown. Highly unlikely....

That's all for now.

What a Week

Well first of, our beloved Barney dog had to be put to sleep. He was 15 which equates to 105 in human years. That had to be so hard for my folks. Toonces their cat (I believe was 14) died last month which I think was the catalyst for Barney's demise. Poor Mao kitty- he is freaking out and also not doing so well. They might lose all of their pets in one semester. That is pretty harsh.

No luck on the kids thing for us. We did the three tries which was my limit so we decided we will put it off for a 1/2 year or a year then revisit it again. We are just tired of dealing with it and what to take a siesta from it. I am just so over constantly being asked about it.
In work news, I have a workshop I am doing today for the Advising Office. It's all about finding cool things to do in the Orlando area. Not only is it booked, but it is over booked. So I am excited about that.

Last night we had our 2nd horror film series of the month. I am loving it. Last week was The Birds and yesterday was the original 1956 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Next week is Carrie and the final one is Halloween.
Homecoming prep is well underway. I am trying to select future Professional Achievement Award winners from our alumni to be honored for next years black n gold gala.
Next weeks luncheon include a congressman and a CEO of a company who starts up small businesses.

For my class, I gave out the first exam yesterday. It is so weird being on the other end. And so boring. I am kicking myself for not bringing a laptop to play solitaire on. You just stare them all down for an hour. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Lots of grading and prep to do this weekend. Blah. Oh- and I am getting hosed for this class. They don't cut me a check (as punie as it is anyways)- it goes to my department. WHAT!?!?!? So in order to use it, I will go 'recruit' maybe to a high school in Key West (it is one of the 33 rural areas in FL which is part of my grant) and get work to pay for my travel down there for a few days. Sounds like a plan to me.

This Saturday Nicole is taking us to the Sleuth dinner mystery place for my bday (a month early).
That is all the news.

Happy Monday

Not sure what is up with the blog- it won't let me sign in so I'll email myself and post it later.
Its been a busy week.

I had the 1st of my 4 horror film series this month at work. We watched the birds. Love that movie.

Oh- I had a bunch of run ins w/ some crazies. Remember a few posts ago when I had the FBI special agent luncheon and during the Q&A session, a student stated "I'm not going to state my name b/c I know YOU know who I am." Can you say paranoia!? Anyhow, that was about a month ago and this week I got an email from that kid stating "Why are you targeting me? I sed to get the honors emails and now I dont after that luncheon." Are you kidding me?!? Turns out I checked him out in the database but he changed his email and never informed us but I guess he thought we would magically know his new email addy.

Then I have this doctoral student (not even an honors alum) who shows up to the luncheons. He is a bit 'off.' So long story short, he has no life and researches questions to ask the speaker and even makes them their own website. Then he sent me a list of potential speakers (over 60 people) including the Pope and a convict on death row (um ueah- they will just let me be this guys parolee officer- not). Oh well, those were the abridged versions.

Barney (Monkee's Dad) turns 15 this month.

I won 2 Halloween Horror Nights Tix, 2 one day 2 park passes to Universal/IOA and a parking pass from a survey online. Sweet. Too bad I hate HHN! Maybe I should sell them.....I'll give it a week to decide.

I messed up my right hand pointer finger. Not sure how but it was looking like a 3rd thumb so I taped them together and that helped immensely.

Friday Mel & Lorie invited us to dinner so we went to Circostas. Saturday was Rob's bday thing and we ate at Joe's Crab Shack and then bowling. It was the best I ever bowled (116) and w/ a screwed up finger! Afterwards Mike & Lynn came over.

We promised Lynn we would take her out to dinner for her bday so on Sunday we took her & Mike out to Rolandos. Also on Sunday we caught up on lots of paperwork, house stuff and grocery shopping.

Thats all for now.
:)
